Milligan was found guilty in December 2016 of five offences of dishonestly, retaining a wrongful credit and an offence of obtaining services by deception. She claimed seven different types of benefit over an eleven year period, pocketing in excess of £500k The investigation lasted three years and she was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court in February 2017 to three years imprisonment.
