Introduction
Identifying fraud risk underpins a Counter Fraud Strategy and identifying the risk and ‘plugging the gaps’ in the controls will fraud proof an organisation against those wishing to commit fraud against it.
What the Course covers
By the end of the learning you will be able to:
- Explain what Fraud Risk Management is and how it can help to protect an organisation
- Understand what a Risk is
- Understand the purpose of effective Fraud Risk Assessment and Fraud Loss Measurement Exercises and the relationship between them
- Understand what a Fraud Risk Assessment is and how it can be planned
- Identify controls relevant to each fraud risk; and to classify by type
- Explain how to assess the effectiveness of controls including their ability to prevent and detect instances of fraud and their weaknesses
- Explain the function and structure of a fraud risk log/register
- Explain the assessment, description and prioritisation of risk in a fraud context, including scoring methods assessing likelihood and impact
- Recognise how fraud risks can be managed by an organisation e.g. treated, tolerated, transferred or terminated
- Understand what elements are required for an effective Counter Fraud Strategy and Response Plan and how Fraud Risk Assessment and Fraud Loss Measurement supports this
- Explain the range of sources which hold relevant information relating to Fraud Risk Management
Who should attend?
The course is relevant for all counter fraud practitioners who wish to gain an understanding of this topic to enable them to report identified risk they find in their day-to-day work in their fight against fraud.

The Course is delivered over one day via the Zoom platform. We use a range of different methodologies to cater for all students learning.
Assessment and Accreditation Criteria
Students have the opportunity to assess their learning through small group exercises. Upon completion of the course, students will receive certification.
